BWY Modules
There is a wide range of BWY modular courses available drawing upon the expertise and skills of our teaching members and reaching out to all practitioners nationwide. They represent the very highest standard of teaching and are regulated by BWY. These courses represent a substantial undertaking in terms of study and a higher level of training in yoga. Each one contains a minimum of 40 tutor contact hours, and 20 hours of personal study is required by the student. Modules are a superb way to develop and sustain your practice, offering a range of new experiences and in-depth study with like-minded people.
Modular courses are split into two categories to allow greater access to all BWY members.
Personal Development Modules
These are open to any student wishing to undertake them, at the tutor’s discretion, and providing you meet the tutor’s criteria for acceptance. You no longer need to be a BWY diploma holder to do these courses, they are open to all.
Teacher training Modules
These are open to anyone who has an approved teaching qualification, BWY or other. Acceptance on the course is at the discretion of the tutor.
If you would like a particular module to run in East Midlands, please contact the Regional Officer, Sandra Kirkham. If you need specialist information about modules, contact Tara Fraser, BWY Modules Officermodules(at)bwy.org.uk.

- Key themes will be:
(1) the interplay between orthodox brahmanical traditions (as found in texts such as the Upanisads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutra) and heterodox ones such as Buddhism and Jainism in terms of who borrowed what from whom;
(2) the differences in the world-views of the major yogic traditions and how we can make sense of them;
(3) the identification of common patterns that run through the various forms of yoga, and
(4) the importance of studying original sources rather than people's interpretations of them. A brief introduction to philosophical and historical methods will also be provided. All sessions will mix presentations from the course leader with question, answer and discussion slots. Small group work on key texts and practical activities are also a feature of this course. Students will be required to undertake preparatory reading for each session and there will be one formal assessment, an essay of 1000 words. That said, this course is for you, the participant. So bring along all those questions, queries wonderings and hunches that you have about the history and philosophy of yoga and share them with us. close Download the pre-course information (PDF opens in new window) - More information: 01636 816909
