BWY Congress 4th-6th April 2008
Theme – Parinama – Change/Transformation
This year’s Congress found us again in the beautiful surroundings of Harper Adams University College, Shropshire. Our theme for BWY this year is Parinama—change. We certainly saw this integrated extremely well in the wide variety of experienced and knowledgeable tutors who bring inspiration to us all through their varied approach and yoga styles.
Even the weather contributed its efforts. As we arrived on Friday it was a warm, sunny, spring day. By Sunday, the air was much cooler and on waking we were greeted by 3-4 inches of crisp, white snow. The views were breathtaking! The grounds are pleasurable to walk around, boasting rich green grass, a lake amidst a large variety of trees, and peace and tranquility for the mind and soul. The contrast from Friday to Sunday was memorable.
Sessions ran throughout the day from 7am till 10pm with plenty of time between to browse the market, wander through the beautiful grounds, or just linger over a meal, chatting with friends, meeting up with faraway friends or getting to know others with the same interests in life. Congress gives us a chance to taste other types of yoga, a time to sing in chanting, and an opportunity to be yourself!
Our plenary guest speaker, Rosy Daniels, spoke about The Yoga of Change. Her message to bring about change in people was to focus on training the teacher, not the student.
The AGM was kept short but was clear and concise, points were made and questions from the floor were answered appropriately and professionally. Behind the scenes, meetings and decisions within the executive and education committees result in improving the profile of BWY and maximising our potential, ensuring that we continue to move forward in every aspect of Yoga.
It was a lovely relaxing weekend, a time for self-practice in an atmosphere of peace and harmony, creating inner happiness—and spent with like-minded people where everyone was smiling!
