BWY East Midlands Yoga Festival

Saturday12th July 2008

This year’s yoga festival started with a flurry of excitement as 150 people came from all over East Midlands to join us at ‘The Cottage’ in Babworth, Retford. Resident hosts Dave and Carolyn Clarke made their home and centre welcoming to BWY members and non-members attending this event. Hours of energy and footwork and a lot of thought had gone into the planning, setting up and delivery of activities on the day.

The doors opened to reveal a huge marquee full to the brim with yogis eager to hear Angela Thompson share her knowledge (and wit) on Yoga and the Alexander Technique.

In the beautiful gardens there were several stalls selling yoga equipment, books, organic products and clothing as well as massage and reflexology tasters which also proved popular. Children ran freely around the grounds before gathering for a yoga, singing and mandala-making experience.

Throughout the day there were Pilates, positive thinking and living philosophy talks, meditation and relaxation. Therapies were available in private rooms and offered wonderful massages, facials, hand or foot reflexology with oil systems and Reiki. It was a day with lots on offer: you could simply sit back and feel the positive buzz of energy around you.

Chris Jolly provided a fun packed session on Tai Chi which again filled the marquee. Last, but not least, Angela returned with daughter Sarah McCrae to enlighten us (and make us laugh a lot—what a great duo they are!) with a talk and short practice on Astrology and how yoga can ‘fit in’ and work with the changing planets.

The sun did shine once or twice during the day and the weather stayed dry!

Carolyn closed off the event with the chanting of om…what a perfect ending to a perfect day!
