BWY East Midlands Region
East Midlands Region committee members are dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, democratically voted into office, who organise local events, provide information and promote the British Wheel of Yoga and yoga generally to existing members and the public at a local level.
Regional Officer Sandra Kirkham provides the link between our committee, Central Office, and the BWY National Executive. She brings information from the BWY Executive to the attention of the regional committee for onward dissemination through the County Reps to our members. Sandra is a Registered Nurse and a BWY Teacher, and teaches BWY First Aid sessions all over the UK.
Treasurer Frank Lunn has taken over as Acting Treasurer for the immediate future. His role is to look after the region's finances, and ensure that events continue to bring money to the region.
Regional Training Officer Janet Smith takes care of all the administration required for teachers’ In-Service Training and ensures that the rest of the committee is kept up to date with changes to programmes made by NISTO (National In-Service Training Officer). As Janet is not a teacher she also keeps us in touch with what non-teaching members expect.
Marketing Officer Jeanette Bunyan is responsible for raising the regional profile of the BWY and yoga in the region, maximising membership, and issuing leaflets to teachers to encourage their students to join the BWY.
Regional Newsletter Editor Sally Alvey is responsible for publicising events well in advance, publishing interesting and informative articles—ensuring a balance between items for teachers and general membership. Sally designs and prepares the newsletter for print. Since the introduction of colour, the East Midlands is proud to boast one of the best regional newsletters!
Acting Website Editor Paul Mullen monitors and keeps all website content up to date, checks that Yoga Events are displayed in the standard format, and sources other content from members and elsewere.
Secretary Vanessa Gerrard takes the Minutes at the quarterly meetings and helps with administration in the region. She is also responsible for advertising events in the national Spectrum/Yoga 2 publication. A mother of two, she is currently undergoing her BWY Teacher Training.

County Representatives are responsible for sending information out to the region’s members, encouraging membership growth, organising and running events (CPD for teachers as well as general interest seminars for members), selling BWY goods to make a profit for our region and answering questions raised by members or prospective members. Their role is to ensure that BWY is actively and positively promoted in their county; they are the primary link between members of the public who seek classes/information about yoga and the BWY as the Governing Body for Yoga in the UK.

Most of the county reps have a deputy or acting deputy whose role is to help with the organisation of their county, contributing ideas, promoting BWY and our regional events. They also provide back-up, covering for any situation arising that may prevent the county rep from attending an event. If for some reason the county rep is unable to fulfill his/her role, the deputy will fill the post until the county rep can resume his/her position, or until the deputy is voted into office, should a county rep decide to resign. Working alongside county reps, deputies provide the region with continuity and members with an enhanced service.
